Sugary lunchtime meal-deals slammed by lobby group

Some lunchtime meal-deals contain more than four times an adult’s daily allowance, a sugar reduction lobby group has claimed.
A sandwich from WHSmith with a Mountain Dew Citrus Blast 500ml drink and a bag of Skittles Crazy Sours was deemed the worst culprit, containing 30 teaspooons of sugar, a survey from Action on Sugar (AoS) found.
Other examples highlighted included Tesco Smokehouse Pulled Chicken with Mesquite Style Sauce with a Monster Energy 500ml drink and Mars Duo; and Morrisons’ Sweet Chilli Chicken Wrap with Relentless Passion Punch Energy 500ml drink and Millionaire Shortbread.
AoS called on the government to take action against price promotions that encourage high sugar consumption.
